“NEVER HIRE THE BEST SALESMAN, UNLESS OF COURSE, YOU ARE ACTUALLY HIRING A SALESMAN”

Your new Manager of Planning sailed through the interview process. He “wowed” the interview panel, hit it off with the Director and – based on his stellar resume – was more than qualified for the position. So why is he NOW failing on the job? It could be because he’s a great interviewee – but not a high performer. In fact, sometimes there is very little correlation between a candidate’s interviewing skills and his capacity to become an outstanding employee. Of course, there are some really skilled and charming interviewees who are also very talented at the work they do, it is just that some hiring processes fail to distinguish […]

Mayor … “This is what we get for doing our own recruiting”

A Man was arrested outside city hall today, pretending to be a Chief Administrative Officer.  Fraud investigators say the perpetrator wore a nice suit. Another former co-worker suggested that “Larry’s future is behind schedule.” People in the city hall administration offices confirmed that “he was definitely scamming everyone”. Our sources tell us […]

Maybe you saw it, too? The tribute scrolls through still pictures of Hollywood execs and entertainers and movie stars (such as Don Harris, Prince, George Michael, Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds) and other well-known individuals who “left us” throughout the year. Not that retiring is like passing away, but watching the annual tribute always causes me to pause and think about the […]
