The District of West Vancouver is seeking a dynamic Superintendent, Roads to manage road operations and capital projects. The ideal candidate has strong leadership experience and has a history of motivating a diverse staff group to excel.

Key accountabilities for this position include:

  • Ensuring that the roadways in the Municipality are safe and maintained throughout the year for pedestrians and vehicular traffic
  • Submitting the annual budget for departmental approval and once approved, managing the budget on a day to day basis
  • Providing management direction to Municipal employees and contracted crews involved in capital and recoverable construction work by planning, assigning, and supervising work to ensure conformance to standards, specifications, and pertinent regulations
  • Coordinating the design, construction, and maintenance activities; consulting with the public on road construction projects
  • Assuring the optimum utilization of staffing resources through hiring, training, development, motivation and supportive leadership
  • Providing information and assistance to the public and resolving roads and transportation operations issues and complaints related to traffic, safety and design
  • Liaising with other departments, business groups, professional organizations, special interest groups and the public to work towards common goals and build effective working relationships
  • Preparing reports and supporting documents related to maintenance operations and construction projects
  • Participating in grievances and labour relations matters

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A two year Diploma Program at an Institute of Technology in a related discipline
  • Eligibility for membership with AScTBC
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures applicable to roads and utilities construction and maintenance
  • Courses related to supervision and management training and supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful candidate must hold a valid BC Driver’s License and will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check.

Position Status: Exempt – Permanent Full-time

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week. The hours and days of work will vary.
