Director of Planning, Land Development & Permits‎

In your capacity as the leader of the Planning, Lands & Permits Division, you will be part of a team responsible for providing vision and leadership in a community seeking to define and achieve its environmental, social, cultural and economic goals. Your portfolio will include building and land development control, community planning and policy development, environmental and subdivision approval and the administration of all municipal land including dispositions, acquisitions, tenure and servicing agreements.

As a member of the senior management team, you will have the opportunity to work in a diverse interdisciplinary environment where leadership, innovation, teamwork and an orientation to action within a sound planning framework are expected. Council will rely on you to provide advice on a wide variety of technical and policy issues, clearly articulating the relationship between current program delivery and the long-term vision for the community. Your commitment to maximizing performance through collaboration will be critical to your success, as will a sound understanding of public engagement strategies to ensure that the policy initiatives and projects are sensitive to and supported by the community.

As a professional planner who is eligible for membership in the Planning Institute of BC, you have considerable experience at a senior management level, preferably in a municipal environment. Outstanding communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills are considered critical.

The salary and benefits package will reflect the importance of the position.

It is anticipated that the new Director will join the District of West Vancouver in August/September 2015 or at a mutually agreeable date. This is a highly confidential search process. References will not be contacted until mutual interest has been established.
