Manager of Public Works
The Town of Moosonee Ontario, is looking for a Manager of Public Works. This opportunity exists due to a recent retirement. Moosonee is located just south of James Bay but it is not particularly far north, being located at 51°N—which is roughly the same latitude as Saskatoon, Calgary, London, UK, and Berlin—but is isolated due to its lack of road access to the rest of Ontario. It is considered to be “the Gateway to the Arctic”.
Moosonee is the railhead of the Ontario Northland Railway where goods are transferred to barges and aircraft for transport to more northerly communities. The Town has a permanent population of over 1750 residents. There is a staff of 10 in the Public Works Department that includes a lead hand, heavy equipment operators, water/wastewater specialists, labourers and a mechanic.
- Candidates should have at least four years in a managerial capacity with a water/wastewater collection/treatment facility in a town or township or other applicable public sector agency of similar or larger complexity and size. Experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of municipal facilities a plus.
- A diploma from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Chemistry or other applicable field is desired, certification as an engineering technologist is desirable. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Candidates must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and the following certifications would be an asset: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator; Wastewater Collections Operator; Water Treatment Systems Operator and Water Distribution Operator.
