The Township of South Glengarry is seeking an experienced, dynamic and progressive leader to serve as Chief Administrative Officer.

South Glengarry is a township in eastern Ontario, on the Saint Lawrence River in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. The community offers a harmonious combination of urban and rural amenities that appeal to a wide variety of lifestyles. It has a population of over 12,000.

The township was created on 1 January 1998, by amalgamating the townships of Charlottenburgh and Lancaster which were two of the original eight “Royal Townships” established along the Saint Lawrence River in Upper Canada in the 1780s. This area was first settled by United Empire Loyalists. From the late 18th century to the early 19th century, the area was almost entirely settled by Scottish emigrants from all over the Scottish Highlands due to the Highland Clearances. Specifically, the Inverness-shire area of Scotland. Canadian Gaelic / Scottish Gaelic had been spoken in Glengarry County since its first settlement in 1784.

The position of Chief Administrative Officer creates an extraordinary career opportunity for an experienced local government executive. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, organizing Township manpower and resources in support of Council’s decisions.

Key will be the capacity to manage and motivate the Township’s 50 + full-time and part-time employees and the Township’s $6.9 million budget. The CAO will be a natural facilitator; the ideal candidate will be an exceptional listener and communicator with a customer-service orientation. The CAO will need to be a decision maker, a strategic planner and a skilled manager of people. The CAO coordinates staff’s recommendations to Council and puts together the overall administrative, budgeting, servicing initiatives, capital projects and related strategies throughout the Township.

The successful candidate will receive a highly competitive salary with an excellent benefit package. Starting salary will depend on compensation history and qualifications.
